Sunflowers of Ukraine

Sunflowers intrigue me - especially how they follow the sun. May this poem - offered up as a prayer - be an encouragement to you during these troubling times.

Sunflowers of Ukraine

As the sunflowers wait for dawn
So my soul longs for a new day
Amber fields under sapphire sky
Crying out for justice today

Weeping is heard throughout the night
Fireballs of fear bring torment
Yet peace reigns in the still morning
Because God has heard our lament

We raise the flag of joy and calm
Each head facing our Creator
From daybreak to noon and sundown
Standing tall against the invader

As far as our own eyes can see
Sunflowers bask in rays of light
Golden domes meet with heaven’s blue
Witnessing Divine care and might

What, then, will we do with our seeds?
O! Let us sow faith, hope and love
In these weary, war-torn battlefields
So we reap righteousness above!
